Barbara Chapman is a writer, and has also been a teacher of English to adult migrants and refugees for over 20 years. Travelling home late one night, she came across "John" being racially assaulted by two men in central Melbourne. He was arrested and the assailants walked free. It took months for her to trace him to offer to be a witness.
