    A young man, well educated, with several diplomas in his pocket, pestered me about getting funds to do a course in South Africa. Not because he needs that course, but merely to get out of Zimbabwe. The rats are leaving the ship.

    Jestina Mukoko was a television presenter, but left to become director of the Zimbabwe Peace Project, which has documented many atrocities and crimes of Mugabe's regime. Last week she was abducted by a group of armed agents.

    Robert Mugabe was a bright and ambitious boy, but angry, lonely and insecure. Nothing has changed. His greatest weakness is that he cannot accept criticism, responding with anger and aggression. The whole of Africa knows that now, to its cost.

    Gangs of party youth rampage through working class Harare assaulting anyone suspected of voting against Robert Mugabe. When they kill, these youths — uneducated, frustrated, high on Mugabe's ideology of hatred — think they are defending Zimbabwe's sovereignty.
