Silver linings

In this Fiona Katauskas cartoon, a woman sitting on the couch says to her partner, 'On the bright side, at least it's stopped me worrying about climate change.' Both through the window where a stylised coronavirus floats outside.

Thank you Fiona - a great cartoon. Sadly it correctly reflects the thinking of so many - including many of our politicians. When the COVID-19 virus pandemic is over, the urgent task for humanity will still be to deal with the pollution that is making millions around the world sick and causing climate change. If our leaders were really thinking ahead and being pro-active, they could have been setting up environmental initiatives to provide jobs and start the important task of protecting our environment. eg re-employing CSIRO climate scientists, increasing, our national recycling efforts and tree planting projects, establishing dumps to safely store all hazardous wastes, They could also be establishing necessary industries like the manufacturing of electric cars, train and tram carriages, solar panels, wind generating propellers, medical electronic equipment etc. etc. Of course, this should have been done before the car makers decided to leave our shores after having been given millions in tax -payer dollars.
