    Dennis Tipakalippa, a Manupi elder, insisted that he and fellow elders were not consulted over the environmental plan developed by Santos for the Barossa Gas Project off the Tiwi Islands. The Federal Court agreed, finding that Santos had not identified or consulted relevant traditional owners.

    Disabled people in Australia are being locked up, dying young and living in poverty, because they are disabled, and particularly if they are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. It's been 11 years since Australia ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, yet disabled people are far from being equal to non-disabled people.

But it is clear to lecturers, tutors and researchers that this will only create more inequality, mainly by forcing people without money to either miss out all together on higher education or go into a huge amount of debt.

    Australia is ranked 29th internationally in the teaching of maths and science. To suggest that a national curriculum would raise such a ranking is a non sequitur. Curriculum is about content. It's standards that refer to performance measurement.
